Bought a pair of flip-flops for Rs 250 at a shop on the way to Asan Tole. It was fun to see the Facebook logo printed on the insole. This rubber one is made in Nepal and feels so comfortable after being broken for a while.

Social media, such as Facebook, has been viral in Nepal, as in other countries. It is common everywhere to see people absorbed in their smartphones. Heard that the penetration and coverage of mobile phones in Nepal have increased rapidly.
Many cyber cafes and telephone booths with signboards reading “ISD” and “STD” were seen along the streets of Thamel, Kathmandu, about 14 years ago. This time, I was confused because I couldn’t find them in Thamel when I tried to make a call to Korea. It didn’t take long for me to realize what had happened there. This explains why mobile phones have become so widely used in Nepal. ISD (International Subscriber Dialing) and STD (Subscriber Trunk Dialing) have faded into the mists of time.
This is also the case in Korea, where public telephone booths have almost disappeared. For people like me, who do not have mobile phones, living in either Nepal or Korea has become inconvenient.
